Plight Made Known

Plight has two meanings; one is to give a pledge and other is exposure to danger. In August 2003 while visiting me in Baltimore, my son finally had the courage to tell me that his stepfather was extermely mean to him and asked if he could stay with me. Knowing the relationship between my ex-wife and me, I could not keep him. She would have insisted that I bring him home and would have pressed kidnapping charges against me if I refused. Before I took my son home, I made a promise to him that I would protect him but he needed to tell his mother or teachers about his stepfather. Little did I know that August 2003 would be the last time I would have visitation with my children (son and two daughters) and how drastically our lives would change.
